MOU SIGNED BETWEEN EPCH AND ALMATY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY – EYEING MAJOR MARKET IN FOCUS CIS REGION
A high level delegation comprising Mr. S.S. Gupta, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) IAS, Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director, EPCH and Mr.R.K. Srivastava, Executive Director, NCDPD are on a visit to Almaty, Kazakhstan to explore the possibility of enhancing exports of Handicrafts to this very important market in Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. Kazakhstan is the second largest country in the CIS region with Almaty being the largest city and major commercial & cultural centre of Kazakhstan.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is signed between Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and Almaty Chambers of Commerce & Industry on 20th September 2012 at Almaty, Kazakhstan. MOU will focus on the promotion of trade of Handicrafts, Gifts and Houseware in two countries and also work closely on technology, design & invite technical experts to help the trade & Industry in general and Handicrafts in particular. It will also help in sharing of commercial intelligence, delegation visits and craft exchange programs in the two countries.
The MOU was signed by Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director on behalf of EPCH and Mr. Mukhtarkhan Biyarov, Vice President of CCI RK & Chairman of Presidium on behalf of Almaty Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The MOU was signed in the presence of Mr. S.S.Gupta, Development commissioner (Handicrafts) IAS, and Mr. R.K. Srivastava, Executive Director, NCDPD.
“This MoU is the reflection of the resolve and the commitment of EPCH towards increasing cooperation in the trade of gifts and handicrafts between India and Kazakhstan”, said Mr. Rakesh Kumar, ED, EPCH after signing the MoU.
The Exports of Indian Handicrafts to these three key markets of CIS is to the tune of US $ 122 million in the year 2011-12 and it is expected to be doubled in the next three years.
The delegation will proceed to Kyrgyzstan and Russia where the council is also participating in the Consume Expo at Moscow to be held from 25 – 28 September’ 2012 with 12 member exporters and 6 master craft persons.
